Demolition of the historic office complex of the former Magneti Marelli

FORMER MAGNETI MARELLI HQ

In Sesto San Giovanni, we successfully completed a large and delicate demolition project at the historic office complex of the former Magneti Marelli, later Impregilo.

The operation, spanning an area of 30,000 m², began with a meticulous phase of FAV and asbestos remediation, followed by the selective strip-out of all buildings to separate waste materials.

The demolition involved the three main building blocks, for a total volume of 180,000 m³ (gross).

To manage heights of up to 25 meters, we relied on the performance of the Volvo EC480E HR excavator with a 28-meter boom, which ensured precision and safety even during the roof demolition phases.

In addition to the above-ground structures, we handled the demolition of the basements, consolidating the area with the installation of 6,100 linear meters of micropiles and 2,300 linear meters of tie rods for soil retention, preparatory works for future excavations.

Despite the challenges of working in a densely populated area adjacent to major roads such as Viale Italia, we completed the entire project in just 10 months.

Throughout the project, we ensured maximum dust suppression by integrating the EC480E HR Volvo misting systems with the use of cranes to position a large protective tarp of our own design. This system, unique in size and technology, features a primary upper balance beam that creates a water curtain capable of reducing dust by 90% at the source while preventing debris from falling onto the streets.
