LAVAGNINA DAM

Robotized demolitions performed on the Lavagnina Dam

LAVAGNINA DAM

A unique operation was conducted at the Lavagnina Dam. To adjust the surface discharge, it was necessary to lower the spillway threshold by 2 meters, achieved by cutting and sectioning the upper part of the concrete part into different blocks. Demolition was challenging, mainly due to the delicacy of the structure under operation.

Thorough inspections and the use of a demolition robot not only we ensured the complete safety of the structure and the involved operators, but also guaranteed specific intervention times, leading to a cost reduction of approximately 50% compared to the estimates provided by the designers.

A crucial role was played by the expert rock climber, involved in one of the most fascinating phases of the operation: vibration monitoring. Before initiating the demolition,it was essential to ensure that any vibrations produced by the work did not pose a threat to the structure. Through a detection system, we conducted a test simulating demolition activities. Thanks to the rock climber, we obtained significant readings across the entire surface, placing sensors on the entire body of the dam at various elevations, from the top to the bottom discharge.
