CASTELFALFI
In the Castelfalfi Estate, in the rural heart of Tuscany, in an area that was once submerged by the sea and where the oldest inhabitant seems to have been a whale, we completed a structural consolidation project of an old farmhouse. Thanks to the use of specific techniques from our specialized team, TOPTAGLIO ensured the safety and stability of the historic building while preserving its beauty.
The project began with protective works, particularly the reinforcement of the perimeter walls through a formwork filled with sand to protect the ancient structures. Inside, a reinforced plaster was applied to strengthen the walls. The underpinning was executed using an alternating block technique in two phases: the first involved 2-meter excavations with the placement of iron reinforcements and concrete casting, dividing the perimeter into 28 blocks over the two phases. The second phase included the removal of a rock layer and further excavation and reinforcement.
A Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (SME) monitored the stresses throughout the process, ensuring the safety of people and the integrity of the structure. Thanks to these interventions, the farmhouse was made more stable and ready for subsequent renovation and fit-out works.
