VIA DURINI - C.SO EUROPA
On Via Durini / Corso Europa, in Milan, just afew steps from Piazza San Babila, a demolition and remediation project has been carried out as a preliminary phase for the redevelopment of the building.
The operations began with the controlled demolition of a section of the structure on Via Durini using the Brokk 170 robot, necessary to allow access for machinery. On the roofs of both buildings, asbestos-containing membranes were removed, as well as facade panels on Corso Europa, flue pipes, and sealants from window frames — all handled by specialized personnel in compliance with regulations.
In the Via Durini building, the roof and two lower floors will be demolished — initially using the Brokk 170 to “disconnect” the parts to be preserved, and then with a long-arm excavator. On level -2, narrow-section excavations will be carried out.
On Corso Europa, the demolition first involved the canopy, then the roof and top floor, using Brokk 170 and 110 robots and protective sheets. On the lower floors, specific portions of slabs, staircases, and perimeter walls will be demolished; on level -2, work will only take place in the areas indicated by the Site Management. All floors below the robots will be shored up to ensure stability and safety.
Main challenges: the management of materials and waste, particularly asbestos-containing components, in full compliance with safety standards, and the precision demolition of structures adjacent to neighboring buildings.
